Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music player has been changed by other devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, stated: "As we speak, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with assist for spatial audio - there is not any higher way to get pleasure from, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 player that could hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that lets you put your whole music assortment in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same once more."

Related MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the identical success because the iPod.

Apple has released five variations of its music player - the Classic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent years, with cell phone technology enabling clients to hearken to music providers on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod contact was the one mannequin still on sale immediately.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in response to its inventor Tony Fadell.
