Comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage Tuesday evening as he carried out at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl area, with videos from audience members' cellphones shortly flooding social media and showing a person seem to run onto the stage and tackle the comic.

Videos posted to Twitter appeared to indicate the one who charged Chappelle being detained outside the venue by police and then loaded into an ambulance with seen accidents.

Witnesses stated — and videos appeared to indicate — that the person was set upon by multiple folks onstage immediately after he attacked Chappelle.

The motivation for the preliminary attack remained unclear, and there was no fast response from the Los Angeles Police Department to CBS Information' request for details about the incident.

Comic Chris Rock was at the show, and jokingly asked if the attacker was Will Smith — who made headlines by bounding up on stage and slapping Rock on the Academy Awards in March.

Chappelle drew a pointy rebuke late last year from the transgender group for jokes at their expense featured in his newest Netflix special, "The Nearer," which premiered in October.

Netflix stood by the Washington D.C. native, continuing to air the particular regardless of tons of of its own employees staging a walk-out over what they deemed Chappelle's transphobic jokes.

The comic later said he'd be comfortable to meet with any member of the transgender community, however that he wouldn't be swayed by "anyone's calls for" to censor his routine.

"When you wanna meet with me, I might be greater than willing to, but I have circumstances: To start with, you can't come you probably have not watched my special from beginning to end. You will need to come to a spot of my choosing and a time of my choosing. And thirdly, you should admit that Hannah Gadsby shouldn't be humorous."
