During the Uvalde shooting, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for assist. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he mentioned.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each men obtained text messages about the capturing unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an lively shooter. Assist. Love you," Albarado's wife Trisha stated in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade instructor at the faculty, and their daughter is a student there.

"I requested my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, advised CBS News on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the college earlier that morning and was off responsibility, along with his weapon at dwelling.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and so they rushed to the chaotic scene. Police officers have been already there, and Albarado began helping.

"Kids are popping out the windows," he said.

With people fleeing to a funeral dwelling throughout the road, Albarado mentioned he wished to get inside the college as quick as he may.

"I was performing as a husband and a father," he stated.

His wife let him know she made it to the funeral residence, however she instructed him their daughter was locked in a faculty restroom.

"I did not know what restroom," Albarado mentioned.

He ultimately discovered his daughter was in a restroom positioned inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers near the classroom.

"We have to get the youngsters out of here," Albarado said he instructed the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We have to get the youngsters out. This is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doors, and Albarado stated he guided people to security.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado stated. "Aid. Large reduction."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity parking zone.

Whereas Border Patrol brokers have been on the team that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the building," he stated. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough protection."

Throughout a press conference last week, the top of the Texas Division of Public Safety said the varsity district's police chief didn't initially send officers into the classroom the place the gunman was situated because he thought it was no longer an active-shooter scenario. The U.S. Justice Department is conducting a review of the police response.

For his half, Albarado mentioned he wasn't able to evaluate the response.

"I do know my fellow officers," he stated, "and … to me, heart of hearts, I believe they have been doing everything in their energy they could do."
