Speaking in the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I do not plan on coming out for the anthem going ahead till I really feel higher in regards to the route of our country."

In a blog publish, Kapler questioned whether or not the country's leadership is dedicated to representing its individuals's greatest interests and whether america is actually "the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her children. They blocked mother and father making an attempt to organize to charge in to cease the shooter, including a father who learned his daughter was murdered while he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians resolve that the lobbyist and gun industries are more important than our youngsters's freedom to go to high school without needing bulletproof backpacks and lively shooter drills," Kapler wrote.

Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the lack of delivery of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."

"I am not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I could have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied together with your nation, you let or not it's identified via protest. The house of the courageous should encourage this."

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger action against gun violence in the USA.

Kerr refused to talk about basketball ahead of Game 4 of the Warriors' collection against the Dallas Mavericks, as a substitute raising his voice as he railed towards gun violence in the wake of Tuesday's shooting.

"Within the last 10 days, we've had elderly Black people killed in a supermarket in Buffalo, we have had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, now we've kids murdered at school," Kerr told reporters at the start of the press conference.

"When are we going to do something? I'm tired. I'm so tired of getting up right here and providing condolences to the devastated families which might be out there ... I'm tired of the moments of silence. Enough."
