Speaking in the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I don't plan on coming out for the anthem going ahead until I really feel better about the path of our nation."

"I am not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I may have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that while you're dissatisfied with your country, you let or not it's known via protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
