Mum or dad with hid weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

The school had early launch and students had been launched at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the father or mother, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His injury was not critical.

The college district stated White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby space, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers stated there was no menace made and the guardian didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or employees were injured. The guardian was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass college shooting, there have been 5 cases in North Texas related to guns brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom said their minds immediately considered the worst after they were notified.

No parent ever desires there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but suppose the worst once they do.

"When I acquired the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to happen.’ I was shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed said.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer received a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was in the building," he stated.

Guns usually are not allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, but you never need to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington college and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve got to run anywhere that’s safe and hide," she informed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said something needs to be achieved now. 

"They need to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to really move any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
