Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students have been released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the mum or dad, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The varsity district said White was contained in the building, close to the foyer area, and never within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials stated there was no menace made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or workers were injured. The dad or mum was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to weapons introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst once they have been notified.

No guardian ever wants there to be a cause for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's college is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but think the worst when they do.

"When I obtained the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher received a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was in the building," he mentioned.

Guns usually are not allowed on college property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply terrible.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his school.

"If something occurred, you’ve acquired to run wherever that’s secure and hide," she advised her child.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to speak politics, Mitchell stated something must be executed now. 

"They want to talk about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to truly move any laws and do anything," he added.
