College students walk out of colleges in protest of gun violence

Days after at the very least 19 elementary college students and two lecturers have been killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, college students at faculties across the nation staged walkouts to protest gun violence.

In Michigan, college students at Oxford Excessive School, the place a faculty shooting occurred in November, staged a walkout at 12 p.m. on Thursday. Four college students had been killed in the taking pictures.

Students at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, also walked out of class, in help of the national gun safety motion. The varsity was the location of a shooting in November 2019, in which two college students were killed.

Students also staged walkouts at faculties in Port Washington, New York, and Falls Church, Virginia.

Scholar organizers say at least 600 students walked out of Paul D. Schreiber Senior Excessive College in Port Washington earlier this afternoon.

Emma Janoff, an eleventh grader at Schreiber and a member of 'College students Demand Action', a national organization towards gun violence, says she got active on gun control policy and school safety following the 2018 Parkland High College taking pictures.

"You see information day by day about children getting shot and other people your age dying and it is simply extremely sad and unbelievable, particularly to see like youngsters youthful and kids my age," Janoff informed ABC News. "I cant think about that being me; however it is imaginable as a result of it happens so typically."

The 17 year-old says her school's administration was in help of the walkout and he or she hopes the over 200 planned demonstrations throughout the country ship a clear message that college students are a "united front."

A walkout may not necessarily change laws, Janoff said, but these actions show "students are nonetheless united in this."

She stated that though most college students aren't sufficiently old to vote, they still want to see change and are prepared to take measures to have their voices heard in politics.

"Students don't need to be quiet about it simply because they seem to be a kid," Janoff stated.
