Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Learn’ marketing campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a subject that's taken maintain in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Walk Two Moons" have been pulled from cabinets.

While these books is perhaps banned from some schools, there is still some other place you will discover them.

"Our job is just to ensure that if you would like it, it's here for you," said Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out proper now," stated Brown. "So we received extra copies on order but as soon as word obtained round about what happened in McMinn County, we received a whole lot of holds."

These are just some of the two million other supplies on the Nashville Public Library.

"A lot of people don't want to learn these books; they do not want their youngsters to have to learn these books, or pressured to read these books, and that is nice," said Brown. "But there are rather a lot people who do, and we want to be there for the individuals who do want to learn these materials."

And if you want to make your love for these supplies identified, what better manner than together with your library card? The 5,000 restricted edition cards for the campaign say "I learn banned books."

"We all watch the TV reveals that we like; we all watch the completely different sports or root for the completely different groups we're a part of," stated Brown. "Books are no totally different."

The goal is to get the 5,000 library playing cards in the palms of latest sign-ups this month.

"We are not trying to be a push again — a power pushing again towards these choices — we wish to be a substitute for say, when you may not be capable of get it there... you can get it here," stated Brown.

The limited version library cards can be found as long as supplies last.
