A California district lawyer declined to file prices Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police reports and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its review of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery in opposition to another passenger on an airplane while waiting at the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe mentioned in a press release.
"Our resolution is that we'll not file any costs against Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe stated.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to attempt to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what happened earlier than the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file fees by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement businesses "for his or her cautious, diligent, and professional work."
