Mike Tyson will not face costs in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district lawyer says

A California district attorney declined to file costs Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Legal professional Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police studies and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Workplace concluded its overview of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery towards another passenger on an airplane while waiting on the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe said in a press release.

"Our determination is that we will not file any prices in opposition to Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the victim main as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no expenses be filed on this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't show what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file costs by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement businesses "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
