Arlington police stated Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students were launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the dad or mum, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The school district said White was inside the constructing, close to the lobby space, and never within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials stated there was no threat made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff had been injured. The mother or father was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass college shooting, there have been five instances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst when they had been notified.

No dad or mum ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a textual content message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but suppose the worst once they do.

"When I acquired the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," father or mother Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington school and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a college capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his faculty.

"If something happened, you’ve obtained to run wherever that’s safe and hide," she instructed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They need to discuss it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly pass any laws and do something," he added.
