Father or mother with concealed weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

The varsity had early release and college students have been launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the mother or father, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His harm was not severe.

The college district said White was inside the building, close to the foyer area, and never in the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and school officers stated there was no threat made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers were injured. The dad or mum was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst after they had been notified.

"After I obtained the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to happen.’ I used to be shocked," parent Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington faculty and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his college.

"If something happened, you’ve received to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she told her youngster.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too contemporary to speak politics, Mitchell said something must be carried out now. 

"They need to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to really move any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
