Talking within the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I don't plan on popping out for the anthem going forward until I feel higher concerning the path of our country."

"I'm not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I might have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that while you're dissatisfied together with your nation, you let it be recognized by means of protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
