Throughout the Uvalde taking pictures, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for help. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he stated.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each males received text messages concerning the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary Faculty in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an active shooter. Help. Love you," Albarado's spouse Trisha said in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade instructor on the faculty, and their daughter is a student there.

"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, informed CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the college earlier that morning and was off duty, with his weapon at dwelling.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and they rushed to the chaotic scene. Police officers had been already there, and Albarado began helping.

"Children are coming out the windows," he mentioned.

With individuals fleeing to a funeral home across the street, Albarado stated he wanted to get inside the school as fast as he may.

"I used to be appearing as a husband and a father," he stated.

His spouse let him know she made it to the funeral dwelling, but she informed him their daughter was locked in a school restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado mentioned.

He eventually learned his daughter was in a restroom situated inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers near the classroom.

"We have to get the kids out of right here," Albarado stated he advised the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We have to get the youngsters out. That is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doorways, and Albarado stated he guided people to safety.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado mentioned. "Relief. Massive aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity parking lot.

While Border Patrol brokers had been on the workforce that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it wouldn't have been a smart move for me to get into the building," he stated. "I didn't have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough defense."

Throughout a press convention last week, the head of the Texas Department of Public Security said the varsity district's police chief did not initially ship officers into the classroom where the gunman was positioned because he thought it was now not an active-shooter situation. The U.S. Justice Department is conducting a evaluate of the police response.
