BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass college taking pictures that might have included a bombing at Berkeley High College, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division said in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful system materials and threatening to commit a crime which can lead to dying or nice bodily damage.

Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a taking pictures that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teenager was a student at Berkeley Excessive College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they found elements to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic gadgets that might be used to create additional weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"College security stays a high priority for the division," police mentioned in a statement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police stated this case stays underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the college's neighborhood that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing threat to its schools. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and safety staff about this investigation and, as is our commonplace apply, maintained shut contact with our BPD Faculty Resource Officer on the Berkeley High Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we were assured that this particular person did not pose a direct threat to the Berkeley High College neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary action in opposition to the coed. 

In addition, a town corridor assembly titled: 'Methods to Talk to Youngsters About College Violence' provided by Alameda County Workplace of Schooling is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
